Feather Essences
F1. Mandarin Drake Cheek Feathers
Nervousness – fear, especially of confrontation – very sensitive to noise, sudden noise – on constant alert – startled easily – are so distracted by their fear and nervousness that cannot concentrate on the job/issue in hand. Small, strong and solid. Close to the ground, close to the earth. Watchful, observing, keen senses. Ready to go, ready to step forward, but can’t quite do it. They get stuck – a bit like OCD where people get stuck in a certain action and repeat it again and again, and cannot move beyond that action. A dilemma, whether to stay or whether to go. 2 steps forward, 1 step back, again and again. Tend to freeze where they are because of the indecision, this stuckness holds them in a certain position from which they cannot move.

Noisy! Make a lot of song and dance about their lives. Lively speakers – entertaining. Good people to have at a party. But prone to exaggeration. Live in their heads more than in their lives. Talk about taking action and doing things but procrastinate – put if off – continue to talk about it. End up being quite self-obsessed. They are aware that they cannot actually put words into actions, but continue to create a façade which other people are fooled by. Others end up wandering and not knowing if this person has actually done what they are describing or whether it is all hot air.

Take off and move forward, but with safety – stay within known and safe bounds so can get stuck in known and familiar patterns, that have served them in the past but restrict their progress now. They do want change but want safety also. They ‘travel’ the same migratory lines and currents almost automatically and innately and these provide a certain amount of success and stability in their lives. People around them will consider them reliable and faithful, but boring and unprepared to be spontaneous. There is a self-containment about them which can be very hard to get through – like a tough leathery skin. Can have heart conditions to do with the hardening of the arteries. Joint problems to do with deterioration in movement. A hardening of the joints.

Old age and approaching death. A wearing out, or this is how people are feeling. A lack of fluidity – dried out. Unimaginative. Scrawny – bodily and mind processes drying out and shrinking. They need to be ‘hydrated’ again in some way and this essence can assist that process. They are so ‘dried out’, it is their norm and they do not realise how extreme it is. They tend to be disappointed and disdainful about life and people in general. Nothing or no-one quite meets up to their expectations, though they themselves are unable to reach that level either. Shock – withdrawal – fly away – cannot face a traumatic event or situation. Cannot deal with it – have to escape through their minds and psyches and will literally run away, exit, if they are able to. This response to a trauma in their lives then repeats itself as a pattern and a reaction to consequent life events and is often seen as an over-reaction. But the initial shock reaction is activated again and again. This essence will help to clear the original shock/trauma and hence aid more appropriate perception of and reactions to life events. They have made the decision and know the course of action they want to take, but can’t quite move set it in motion. They keep looking over their shoulder, keep looking back. Move forward very slowly. Move one step, then stop stock still. They are worried about leaving the old, no matter how stale or dissatisfying it was, and are unsure that they deserve the new. They proffer desperate calls for help, wanting someone to tell them what to do, which way to turn. This essence helps them to start developing their own instinct, to learn to listen to their own instincts and develop their own inner voice. It strikes terror into their solar plexus and they freeze in whatever situation they are in. They lose their nerve – freeze on stage or in public speaking. Their instinct is to freeze so that their movement will no longer attract attention – that ‘everyone’ might go away then, leave them alone and not notice them. Too sensitive – too open to psychic influences and the emotional influences of others. Their third eye and solar plexuses are too open. Often caused by sudden trauma of one kind or another in this life or brought from past lives. It is as if they are too sensitive for this world and find it hard to bear. They will compensate by needing to be alone and away from people. So can appear unreliable and unpredictable to their friends or people attached to them in some way. They will literally fly off in supposed disregard to others or others’ feelings, but it is really that they cannot bear to be there another minute and must seek their own space. This could follow on from F20. For as the person breathes freely once more, they come into the pain of life. They come into the intense colour of life and of their own feelings. It is as if they have been walking through a shadowy world before, and now they are restored to the vivid, if not stark light of life and it is a shock and difficult to comprehend and adjust to as first. This essence helps with the pain of life, however that might present itself to a person. An example is grief – the loss of a loved one and the pain of that loss that rears up.

Transmigration and transformation. For people who feel they are on the brink, who are literally about to fly off – change their lives completely – leave the country – start a new life. This essence ensures that all past issues are finished to allow a clean break. Energetically, it helps to break any lasting strands of connection which might hold a person back or make them hesitate. It is a state of initiation, when you must look forwards with no hesitancy. If you hesitate you will fall rather than fly. This is the feeling.
